    Funny you mention the timer knob. I just replaced one on a Whirlpool dryer that wouldnt heat up on the auto dry cycle. Timed dry worked perfectly, and in fact we had used the dryer for a year like that (the dryer was bought used). It didnt blow the thermal fuse, though. The dryer just never heated up.
